Brainrot: We Decoded the Slang That's Melting Brains
Skibidi, rizz, gyatt: a quick survival guide to the absurd vocabulary squatting Luxembourg's school playgrounds.
If a teen tells you 'this pizza has too much rizz', no, they're not talking about a secret ingredient. Welcome to 'brainrot', the stream of absurd words born on TikTok that has colonized conversations, including the hallways of Luxembourg's high schools.
Three words to know so you don't sound like a boomer
'Rizz' (from charisma) is the power to charm. 'Skibidi' literally means nothing, and that's the whole point. 'Gyatt' expresses surprise. The golden rule: the more meaningless it is, the funnier it is to whoever says it.
Why it blows up (and why it annoys)
Brainrot is a social code: mastering it means belonging to the group. In Luxembourg, where teens already juggle Luxembourgish, French, German and English, these words just add a fifth language, the one of the internet, shared from one playground to the next. Don't panic: every generation has had jargon their parents couldn't understand, and this one will end up forgotten like yesterday's fads.
